President’s Report – November 2019

I’m just advised that member 945 Rick Irvine passed away last Tuesday after a long struggle with illness.     Sue and family are in our thoughts and Rick will be missed at Club events.

For longer serving members, an advice regarding the passing of Lloyd Bennett (Member No. 371 Call Sign K9).     Our thoughts go out to his wife Reetha and family.    Lloyds’ NT Pajero was advertised at the last social meeting.

A reminder to book into the Annual Mitsubishi 4WD Club Christmas Party to be held at the Mannum Riverside Caravan Park (Fri 6th and Sat 7th December 2019).    Read further into Catchat for more details – thanks to Naomi and her team.

We’ll be looking for volunteers for the Caravan and Camping Show, February 12 – 16, 2020 – please mark this event in your diary.

At the October Social meeting, I announced that I won’t be extending my time as President beyond my current term which finishes at the AGM in March 2021.   With 16 months to run it’s important to organise my replacement starting at the next AGM in March 2020, by electing a vice president willing to take on the Presidency.     If you are willing to join the Management Committee to help fill vacant positions, please contact a Committee member.

Our guest speaker for the Tuesday, November 26th Social meeting is member Malcolm Nicolle discussing Electronic Vehicles.    A performance V8 can accelerate from 0-100kph in around 4.5 secs – compared to some standard electric vehicles in ‘street trim’ which only take 2.5 secs.     https://
Germany plans to build 1 million battery recharge sites by 2030 for Electronic Vehicles.

President’s Report – October 2019

I thank Steve Pearson (acting as the Club president) and the various volunteers attending Committee meetings during my 15,000km trip to Cairns and Darwin during the winter period.

I’m very pleased to welcome new members; Barbara with Paul Barbara (1001), Maria with Danny Fassina (1002), Ilene with John Theil (1003), Dianne with James Cox (1004), Graham Hill (1005) and Sue with Brett Newman (1006).

It is the intention of the Management Committee to increase the use of our Web site in the distribution of information to Club members.   We’ve recently added a Privacy Policy and Statement of Commitment to Child Safety which can be viewed from the Overview heading at our home page – thanks Mary.

A reminder to book into the Annual Mitsubishi 4WD Club Christmas Party to be held at the Mannum Riverside Caravan Park (Fri 6th and Sat 7th December 2019).    Read further  into Catchat for more details – thanks to Naomi and her team.

Our guest speaker for the Tuesday Sept 22nd Social meeting is Steve Johnson from VKS737 a voluntary organisation providing HF radio communications for ‘outback’ travellers who are in distress.

The Club is experiencing a rotation of volunteers from our various Committees and activities.
Many of these retiring members have served several years and a rest is well deserved.     We are looking for volunteers to:

  • Expand the team at the greeting desk – Social meetings – ‘Mitsi mates’ for visitors
  • Expand the social meeting cooking team
  • Assist Lance coordinate Long Trips meetings
  • Expand our team with IT skill sets to advise in the innovative use of our IT resources
  • Mechanical Interest Group coordinator

A lack of volunteers in ‘key’ areas may result in payment for services, which will impact our membership fees.

A reminder to address any membership issues directly with Fiona rather than hubby Michael, who’s already over committed.

Cheers, Des Leach

Vice President’s Report – September 2019

Hi everyone.   This month we welcome new members 1004 James and Dianne Cox, 1005 Graham Hill and 1006 Brett Newman.    Please make them all feel welcome when you meet them.

By the time you read this, we will have run our Peake Sand Dune weekend. I have been looking forward to it for a while now, it will be a welcome break from my little project, the ensuite renovation.    I hope the weather is kind to us as we have a good group registered to attend, with quite a few 1st timers.

As I write this, Club President Des and wife Lynette have arrived back in town after their winter trip. I am sure they will have some stories to tell when we see them next.

The club will be back in the capable hands of Des at the next social meeting.    Speaking of which, you will be glad to hear that sausages and pizza are back on offer at the social meeting from this month onward.    Arrive early and take advantage of this social occasion.    Just remember to BYO drinks.    Thanks Lee and Malcolm for arranging this.

That’s it from me for now.    Des will be back in charge from here.

Steve Pearson Vice President

Vice President’s Report – August 2019

Hi everyone.   This month we welcome new members 1002 Danny Fassina of North East Mitsubishi, 1003 John and Ilene Thiel and returning member 408 Jo Demmler/Nick Orr.    You might recall Danny visited our club at the May social meeting to display the latest Triton.    Don’t forget that the team at North East Mitsubishi (NEM) have offered the following discounts to members.     When purchasing a vehicle through North East Mitsubishi, they will receive:
– National Fleet Pricing
– No Dealer Delivery Fee
– Trade Price on all Accessories and any Monthly Incentives in place.
– North East Mitsubishi will also offer Trade Price on all Parts and Trade Price on Servicing.

Please make all of our new members feel welcome when you meet them.

We have had a relatively quiet winter period on the committee, sometimes struggling to gather a quorum for our meetings as many of our members have been travelling,  however we will soon return to business as usual as winter trips wind up.
Just a reminder that there are currently 3 vacant committee positions available.     If you have ever thought of getting involved in the running of the club, there has never been a better time to get involved.    Each vacant spot is a position without specific title, giving the committee and the interested member the opportunity to contribute in a way that interests them.     Please have a think about if you are able to contribute in some way, and talk to one of the committee.     You are welcome to come along to a committee meeting as a visitor to have a look at how we operate at any time.     We would love to get some new members with fresh ideas involved.

Next social meeting our guest speaker will be Alex of Carto graphics, discussing ‘Developments in Raster mapping and the importance of hardcopy maps’.     These talks are always popular with many questions and answers coming from the floor.

Finally, the Day and Short Trips are about to ramp up as the weather improves.     There are still vacancies for Peake for both Sand Driving Training and Social Driving.     If you have not been to Peake for a while, consider coming along to check out the changes, try out your vehicle or just come and sit around the campfire for a chat.

Vice President’s Report – July 2019

Hi everyone.    This month we welcome member number 1001 Paul Barbara and Barbara Jardine. Please make them feel welcome when you meet them.

We continue to attract new members and the Promotions Sub Committee are being kept busy planning New Members Meetings to welcome all our new members.    If you are one of these, you will have received your invitation already.    We hope you can attend to help you make the most of your club membership.

I hope you are keeping warm during this cold time of the year.  If you are on a trip, I hope the weather is being kind to you and you have safe travels.    The weather did not stop us holding a successful, well attended June social meeting.    Tanya Ryan provided an interesting talk on Wills, Power of Attorney etc.    She gave us all something to think about.

Next social meeting our guest speaker will be Gary Light, President of the Mount Lofty Ranges 4WD Club who will talk to us about the OCTOBERFEST 4WD event to be held in the Flinders Ranges in October.    It should be an interesting talk, and worth the trip in, if you are considering attending this event.

There are plenty of trips on offer during the next few months.    Take the opportunity to attend one of these if you are able.  Just a reminder, make sure you express interest in attending as soon as you are able, to secure your spot and assist the trip leader with planning.    It is better to show interest early and pull out if circumstances change than miss out.

President’s Report – June 2019

I thank Steve Pearson (acting as the Club president) and the various volunteers attending Committee meetings over the winter period.     For those travelling, we wish you a safe journey and look forward to hearing and reading (Cat Chat article) about your adventures.

On behalf of members I thank those on Club Committees for their hard work during a period of change and innovation and to Lance Boagey his band of helpers who represented our Club at the recent ‘Birdwood celebration of 4WD’ event.

I’m very pleased to welcome new members, Kathy with Chris Wyatt (999) and Jo with Greg Lamey (1000).   Lachlan with Leslie Peter (600) have rejoined the Club having returned to Adelaide after working in Saudi for over 10yrs.

Our guest speaker for the Tuesday June 25th Social meeting will be Solicitor Tanya Ryan who will discuss the latest in Wills and the various Powers of Attorney.

Following a display of the latest Triton model at the May Social meeting by Danny Fassina and his team, North East Mitsubishi (NEM) have offered the following discounts to members. When purchasing a vehicle through NEM. they will receive: – National Fleet Pricing; No Dealer Delivery Fee; Trade Price on all Accessories and any Monthly Incentives in place. NEM. will also offer Trade Price on all Parts and Trade Price on Servicing.

For those who travel across state borders, here is a copy of the March 2019 Australian Interstate Quarantine booklet. Australian-Interstate-Quarantine-Travellers-guide-21.05.19.pdf

Are you interested in talks and walks related to the history of South Australia? https://

For those looking for something different, I recommend a tour of the clipper ship City of Adelaide where your tour fee assists with the renovation of the vessel.    How did they transmit sunlight down into the first-class cabins?

Having developed an appetite, you could walk a short distance to ‘Pancakes at the Port’ for a lovely meal whilst overlooking the activities on the Port river.

Please welcome new members, Peter Taylour (997) and Dorothy Cormack with Brian (998) as they join in with our Club activities.

The 28th May Social meeting will include Danny Fassina from North East Mitsubishi who will be discussing the new MR model Triton, which will be onstage.     Danny intends joining the Club and having demonstrator vehicles available to view, at our training days.    Members may be able to drive them with prior notice.
The Club is currently negotiating special purchasing, servicing and parts discounts for members – thanks to Michael Davis.

Not all Committee positions have been filled (Social Coordinator, Catchat editor and positions with no allocated duties).   Changes will need to be made to some of these activities if a shortage of help is experienced.

The Committee is currently reorganising our IT services and is keen to receive suggestions from members regarding the information and content they want from these services. Please send any suggestions to my email address (see below).

On Sunday 19th May a Celebration of 4 Wheel Driving will be conducted at the National Motor Museum, Birdwood.   Ten Mitsi club vehicles and their gear will be displayed – want to assist ? – contact me at the email address below !

Have you ever wondered what MY18 or MY19 on an advertised vehicle means?     This should help –

Information on the future of the Pajero varies depending on the source.    Here is some more to add to the mix :
