Quiz Night 2014

i Apr 22nd No Comments by

The second social function for the Mitsi Club this year was a Quiz Night held as part of the April Social Meeting on 22nd April 2014. A good turnout of some 50 people ensured lively competition amongst the five teams.

The Quiz Mistress was “Professor Fourbie” (also known as Liz) complete with cape and mortar board. She was ably assisted by Walter throughout the proceedings, with much appreciated computer and scoring help from our resident computer whiz Kingsley.

The five tables of competitors demonstrated their creativity by coming up with such inventive team names as the “Blanks”, the “Airbags”, the “Nomads”, the “President’s 10” and “Trailer Trash”.

There were five rounds of questions covering topics ranging from Australian and International Geography, International and Australian Trivia and one devoted entirely to the participants’ knowledge of the Mitsubishi 4×4 Club. The questions were designed not only to test the participants’ general knowledge, but also provided some unusual and little known but interesting facts to stretch the participants thinking processes.

Scores were calculated at the end of each round and the team (or teams) with the lowest score were given the opportunity to increase their scores by undertaking the “Lager’s Lottery”. This somewhat ‘out of left field’ addition to the quiz night saw the lager’s trying to guess a bizarre trivia fact which one member of their team had to ‘tell’ them by doing a mime or using the ‘hangman’ technique. The results were often comical!!

The winning team at the end of each round were rewarded with chocolates or small incentives like pens. When the total scores for each team were calculated the winning team the Airbags” (who were consistent winners at the end of each round) had their sterling efforts recognised by receiving a small gift and a certificate for each team member.

All in all the one and a half hours sped by quickly and I hope that most people enjoyed this alternative to a guest speaker and found the facts presented interesting and/or challenging.
