Winter is upon us and today was the first morning where I’ve had to douse the windscreen to clear the ice.

A number of committee members will be away during these colder months and I thank John O’Daly and Bob Bolto for volunteering to bolster the Committee numbers and also Steve Pearson for monitoring our emails and chairing most of the upcoming meetings.

We welcome new members Sue and Rick Irvine (945).

I’m giving formal notice of a Special General Meeting (SGM) to be held as part of the Sept 27th Social meeting.  The ‘SGM’ agenda will include the 2017 budget approvals; changes to the Vice Presidents role in the Constitution and a vote for a Life Membership of the Club. (This is in accordance with Section F(4)b of our the Club Constitution where a minimum of 21 days notice is to be provided to members.)

Our guest speaker for the June Social meeting will be solicitor Tanya Ryan (8352 3284) who specialises in Wills and the various ‘powers of attorney’.

4WDSA has a number of channels for keeping members of affiliated clubs informed, but none of these are as direct as an email from them to you. Please subscribe to receive regular and urgent news by email. More details are on the following link:

A reminder to members to book into the Barossa Valley Tourist Park (Fri 25th to Sun 27th November 2016) for our 30th anniversary celebration. If you have contact with any past members please mention the event to them and they are very welcome to join us.

SAPOL maintains a number of information sites on the internet – here is an overview of some of them-:

Lyn and I have just enjoyed another weekend away – this time to Mannum.  There’s lots to see within the town with plenty of exercise walking up to the lookout.  A hidden gem is Bolto Reserve on the eastern side of the Murray. Gain access from Adelaide via the ferry then turn right at the ‘T’ junction and continue past the shacks. At about 500 meters you’ll be greeted with well set out non-powered camping sites. This area is across the river from where the Proud Mary and other paddle steamers moor.   The cost is $10 per night, which is paid into a coin machine near the well maintained brick toilets.

Cheers,

Des Leach
